History
Our experience in the design industry stretches across several decades and encompasses a vast variety of projects and award-winning designs.
Peter Bouwsema started PJB Design in 1990, operating out of his home after several years of working for other construction companies in Central Alberta. With his education in Civil Engineering and his eye for thoughtful design, he steadily built up a portfolio of interesting projects, including the Donut Mill in Red Deer, the award-winning Victoria House apartment building in Lacombe and the renovation/conversion of the Innisfail Alliance Church, along with several beautiful homes around the area.
Brent Bouwsema joined the family business in 2003, bringing with him carpentry experience and education in architectural design. Brent's arrival marked the transition of the business from hand-drawing to computer-aided drafting. Brent's computer know-how also allowed for 3D renderings and visualizations to be added to our repertoire of services.
In 2007, Peter and Lorraine moved office from their house to its present location in the second storey of the Siding 12 office building on the east side of Lacombe. Brent began working onsite in the office in 2010.
In our years of business, we have been involved in over 4000 projects, mostly residential, ranging in size from 600 square foot cabin to a 6000 square foot executive home. We have designed a large variety of spaces, including a dental office, several medical offices, several seniors complexes, many churches and numerous single family and multi-family homes. Our most recent notable projects include the Sunny 94 building in Lacombe, the Dolman Dental building in Lacombe and the revitalization of several historical buildings in Lacombe and elsewhere. Our Team
Brent Bouwsema
Brent Bouwsema has called Lacombe home for most of his life. However, he also has an appreciation for urban living and foreign travel and the interesting and unique design ideas to be found throughout the world. Brent has several years of carpentry experience as well as a diploma in Architectural Technologies from SAIT Polytechnic.
He lives in an intentionally small house in the "numbered streets" part of Lacombe with his wife Kirstin, their four children and four fluffy chickens. He loves wine and cross country skiing, but not at the same time. He is the president of the Lacombe Cross Country Ski Club and a member of the Lacombe Art Selection Committee.
